this is how it used to work. bring someone else with you, have them agro the bear without hurting the bear. have them run around you with the person with the agro out of melee range of the bear. then start the charm animal spell on them.
as to if that still works I can't say. gave up on rangers a long time ago hehe. |

I got this from another forum:

I've heard you can find bears post-searing in the mountain region (but without the 'brutal mauling' attack). Can anyone confirm this? |

I tried this. It is possible but we gave up eventually
P2: Charge adrenaline on Hammer Bash Both: Find Black Bear P1: Casts Faintheartedness on bear P2: Draws the bear's attention P1: Charm Animal, right before the bear starts an mauling attack P2: Bane Signet, right before the bear lands the hit *the bear stood up and broke the charm before hammer bash was applied* P2: Hammer Bash, between the bears rising and using skillbreak but once when I accidently casted charm animal early, the bear didn't break it so I started casting about 1 second before break charm. Almost got it but my partner wasn't ready and didn't use any skills |

Lornars Pass,
Find your Bear, bring the right skills, have the right attribute distribution and the Bear is yours. The tanking ability is pretty amazing. He is a little slow, but makes up in Brute Tanking ability. He also knocks down on his own. This could be the one thing that gives the Rangers the extra Edge. |

Couldn't you lure the bear into an obstacle ridden area and just entangle him then charm him? Anyways, did anyone try to charm "Spirit of the Wind"? The charr ranger's pet.

lol, that's a nature spirit silly, you get it by casting a ranger spell that you unfortunately can't get in pre-searing, it just boosts certain stats and then dies automatically later on, no, I've got a better way to charm a bear.
R/me and W/Mo Ranger brings Charm, and imagined Burdan, and warrior bring hammer bash, and Bane sig (as stated above) Charge Bash Ranger casts Burden on on bear. all wait until Brutal mauling starts. (helps if there's a fence, etc. between charmer and the bear.) Ranger casts charm right before Mauling finishes, use bash, and the cast Bane sig STRAIGHT AWAY. otherwise the bear will inturrupt, as stated above. that's what I did, and I've got myself a kickass bear. |

In fact you do not need any special skill combo to tame a bear in presearing.
My war/ranger tamed a bear there with another ranger friend helping. Its all about the timing. The person that agros the bear needs to run just as the bear starts its mauling attack. The person taming the bear needs to start the charm just as the mauling attack starts, the bear should drag forward to hit the person it agroed and will be out of range to break the charm. Special skills such as faintheartedness do make this easier but are not mandatory for it. |
